Online Learning Platform Going to Paid-only Service: Ning cuts staff, free service - Carolyn McCarthy, CNet news.com
Uh-oh. Just a month after Gina Bianchini, co-founder of build-a-social-network service Ning, departed the company, it's cutting 40 percent of its staff and axing its free, ad-supported service later this year.

Ning's blog reports: For Ning Creators using our free service who choose to move to another service, we will offer a migration path and time to make that change. We will still continue to allow free trials and test networks on the Ning Platform. We look forward to talking to you further on May 4th.

Grou.ps and Grouply are promising migration help to their networking sites. Grou.ps promises to always be free. (see Tech Crunch http://techcrunch.com/2010/04/16/grou-ps-and-grouply-welcome-ning-refugees/)
