Do online classes work? It is a question at the center of the push for major changes proposed for Grand Rapids Public Schools. School administrators say their plan to offer online, blended and traditional classes to high school students is based on the best research available. Critics, including some school board members, question that research. Others suggest it points to the need for caution. The head of the teachers union says at least some of the district's existing online courses are failing.
