For Mark Napier, a former police lieutenant, online education afforded him the opportunity to advance his degree, and thus his career. As a police officer, his schedule couldn’t fit in traditional schooling - but he knew he wanted to get a master’s in criminal justice. “Online education offers up a whole opportunity that otherwise would have been completely blocked,” he said. After finishing his master’s through Boston University’s online program, the Tucson, Ariz., police officer was promoted to captain. “Having that degree from BU carries a lot more clout,” he said.
