Local colleges ramp up online learning: It's a way to increase enrollment without a big investment - Ashley Smith, News-Sentinel
Online is the future, local colleges are saying. "Originally the decision to offer the degrees online ... (was) quite frankly (because) we needed to change our business model to keep the doors open," said Jeff Groeling, dean of online learning for Taylor University. "I would say economic realities contributed to the new conception." In May, Taylor University Fort Wayne closed its doors on Rudisill Boulevard for good, but kept its online presence in Fort Wayne as a supplement to traditional courses offered on its Upland campus. Right now, students can receive a bachelor's degree in business administration without even setting foot on campus. "(We) saw an opportunity to grow," Groeling said of the 150 courses offered online through Taylor.
