Schools using online learning techniques to help sick students catch up - DIANE SMITH, McClatchy Newspapers
Teachers realized in the spring, when H1N1 emerged, that they would need to help children make up lost ground when they returned to school. Teachers had to be prepared so students wouldn't fall behind and get poor grades. As cases of flu-like illnesses have surged this fall, schools and districts have devised strategies to help students catch up. Help students and encourage them to keep up with schoolwork. Check for grades and absences online if the school district has a tracking system. E-mail teachers about schoolwork. Most schools have e-mail links to teachers directly from a school Web site. If teachers have a subject Web site, check for homework assignments and online class lessons.
