Foundations Seek to Boost Online Learning and Teacher Preparation - Philanthropy Today The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced on Thursday $12.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation announced on Thursday $12.9-million in grants to help community colleges nationwide improve digital class offerings, writes the Associated Press. The money will provide teacher support and fund programs on using social media, games, and virtual labs to boost online courses. Also, the Bush Foundation, in St. Paul, has pledged $40-million to a 10-year program to improve teacher preparation at 14 colleges in Minnesota and the Dakotas, according to Minnesota Public Radio. The participating institutions say they will aggressively recruit top students for their teacher-training programs and strengthen ties to area secondary schools to better place graduates and track their classroom performance.
