Online textbooks ease pain for pinched students - Elise Stolte, Edmonton Journal
Writing a textbook and giving it away online didn't make Athabasca University professor Terry Anderson rich, but you can bet it made students happy."That's the way it should be," said the Canada Research Chair in Distance Education. "The gift economy, potlatch, the fact that, as educators, we have an obligation to disseminate our work. "And I know it gets far greater exposure if I put it open access than if I just held it waiting for libraries or people to purchase it. It's the fame, not the fortune from that book."
