Online Learning: Newport News teachers, students armed with wide range of e-tools - Cathy Grimes, Daily Press
Online classes, electronic textbooks, classroom blogs and social networks are among the electronic tools Newport News students and teachers will be using when school begins Tuesday. The School Board was updated on the district's "e-learning" efforts at a Tuesday work session. "Electronic learning does not replace the human factor," said Kari Weston, district executive director of innovation and development. "Online learning is a tool just like any other tool. We're using technology to extend learning." Weston said the district has been using some electronic tools and programs, but is ramping up its efforts to share them across schools and grades. E-learning provides more access to information and reduces costs, Weston said.
