Auditors seek university austerity & expansion of online learning - Tim Carpenter, Topeka Capital-Journal
Universities in the Kansas Board of Regents system have opportunities to improve efficiency by increasing teaching workloads of faculty members, dropping unpopular course sections and expanding online class offerings, state auditors reported Friday. The push for financial savings coincides with work by legislators to identify ways of closing an anticipated state budget deficit in 2010. Auditors suggested universities do more to combine academic departments and to expand online course offerings. While 43 percent of student credit hours at FHSU were earned online last year, KU's online production was 0.2 of a percent of overall credit hours completed.
