Residents say broadband needed in rural areas - Lisa Kaczke, The Fergus Falls Daily Journal
The Ultra-High Broadband Task Force heard the frustration of rural dial-up users when it held its meeting Friday in Fergus Falls. In addition to residents, also hoping for a state-wide broadband system are school districts and libraries. Districts rely on high-speed Internet for learning opportunities for students while libraries need it for the increasing number of people using library computers, Mary Mehsikomer, of Northwest Links, told the task force Friday. The Northwest Links is a consortium of libraries and school districts. The 70 school districts in Northwest Links use the Internet to expand the learning opportunities in their small rural districts, such as offering online learning courses.
