Officials in the Houston ISD said they plan to meet soon to discuss distance online learning options that could be used in the case of a major scare or outbreak. Schools won't be penalized financially if they decide to close, Duncan said. “We want schools to make the right decision for the right reasons,” he said. Should the virus evolve into a more deadly disease, schools may be asked to screen children as they enter the building and to reduce the amount of time children spend in large groups, officials said.
