Online Learning: Enrollment soars statewide at Ivy Tech - Christin Nance Lazerus, Post-Tribune
In Northwest Indiana, classes are about 85 percent full, according to Chancellor J. Guadalupe Valtierra. There are 8,652 students registered for fall classes, compared to 5,972 last year -- a 45 percent increase. Campuses across the state were able to add more sections of in-demand courses by hiring 80 additional full-time faculty to teach and advise students. Valtierra said Ivy Tech also is offering more online classes for students. "We faced the same situation of making sure that faculty are certified and have credentials," Valtierra said. "They have to be properly certified to teach distance learning classes."
