Online Learning: More older users head for their keyboards - NANCY M. LAUGHLIN, Detroit Free Press
As recently as 2000, fewer than 20% of Americans older than 64 were wired -- meaning they could access the Internet. But that's changing as Americans live longer, healthier lives and adapt to electronic devices. Today, 37% of U.S. adults older than 64 are online -- up 85% in just eight years. Across metro Detroit, senior centers, schools and colleges are offering courses for wired-wannabes. "Our courses are pretty popular," Dearborn's senior services coordinator Marsha Koet said. "Many students know the basics, but we get beginners, too."
