New APSU provost seeking fresh ideas - ANN WALLACE, The Leaf-Chronicle
With the looming specter of huge state budget cuts, Denley emphasized the need to revamp traditional perspective. "We need to take a fresh look at how we structure courses. I want us to ask ourselves, 'Would we teach today the way we have in the past if we were starting today?'" Denley said. "For example, technology has changed so much and provides us so many tools that never existed before....Lecture format is passive in so many ways, and if students are working with software where they can get immediate feedback, they can move at their own pace," Denley said. "Things like Facebook and e-mails offer feedback from professors and instructors without having to wait until the next class. Technology provides us with more tools to increase the personal time between student and faculty."
