Do Online Universities Have Virtual Cheerleaders? - STUART ELLIOTT, New York Times
Remember when General Motors introduced Saturn by proclaiming it was “A different kind of company. A different kind of car”? Almost 20 years later, an online educator is presenting itself to potential students as “a different kind of university.” The school is Kaplan University, part of the Kaplan Higher Education division of Kaplan Inc., which is owned by the Washington Post Company. A campaign for Kaplan University, which began last week, carries the theme “A different school of thought” and suggests that learning online is a way to develop talent that could otherwise go to waste.
