Virtual Worlds - Michael George, TMJ 4
Virtual worlds have become reality. One study found up to 80% of internet users will live a virtual life within the next three years. Now, even official entities like governments are getting on board. Ever dream of working with a NASA scientist? Flying through a hurricane? Or getting a front row seat at a state department event? On websites like Entropia Universe and Second Life… where people create digital versions of themselves called avatars… that can do just about anything you can do in real life. The U.S State Department is one of several federal agencies now conducting business or holding events on the cutting edge for all the world to see. Bill May, who is with the State Department's Public Diplomacy IT office, explained the government's use of virtual worlds.
