Universities key to Michigan’s economic recovery - LEWIS WALKER, president Lawrence Tech University, Detroit Free Press
Even in this dark hour of economic uncertainty, the Detroit region and Michigan possess the potential for a dramatic rebirth as a center of emerging technologies.... Michigan institutions of higher learning have made it their mission to enable adult students to pursue better opportunities. Evening and weekend classes are commonplace, and online courses have opened up educational opportunities to many more students.... Institutions of higher learning can be the bridge to bring enterprising companies and educated workers together. Combining the creativity of our entrepreneurs and the know-how of our workers will lead to Michigan’s next big economic success story. The right people with the right education will lead us in those new directions. Michigan’s economic recovery will get a big boost if we can apply this state’s considerable educational resources to the task. We invite other institutions throughout Michigan to join us. Together, we will succeed.
