Accelerator Project: Online Learning Dropout Prevention Program in New Brunswick - Associated Press
The Civic League of Greater New Brunswick and that city's schools also announced the launch of a dropout prevention initiative, the "Accelerator Project." Funded by a four-year, $391,910 grant from AT&T, the project will provide mentoring and special academic attention for some 460 academically challenged students at New Brunswick High School. The after-school program will assist ninth-grade students who failed the first marking period and 10th-graders who have failed one or more core subjects such as language or math. It will employ an online learning program that enables students to learn at their own pace and recover the lost credits toward graduation. "Investing in the educational success of our youth is one of the most important things we can do here in New Jersey," said J. Michael Schweder, president, AT&T New Jersey.
