Task force: Education needs to be pulled into the 21st century - Kyle Cheney, Wicked Local Essex MA
In an increasingly complex and competitive world, teachers must understand technology and connect coursework to the global economy, curricula should eliminate less relevant material and incorporate modern skills such as global awareness, technology and media literacy, and standardized tests must include these new subjects, a state task force recommended Tuesday.... The MCAS history exam should incorporate 21st Century skills and test them via research, collaboration and oral presentations, and the science MCAS should include projects and lab experiments, the report concludes. Teachers should require students to use technology, develop a “Creative Challenge Index” to help students work creatively, and teachers should be audited as part of education department reviews.
