Offered through the Surrey School District, Surrey Connect is one of nearly 50 public distributed learning schools in B.C. wherein students are taught outside a conventional classroom environment, primarily through the Internet. Students learn at their own pace and registration is continuous.... With a motto of “any time, any place, any pace,” the flexibility and freedom of Surrey Connect has proved appealing to students and parents. Enrolment in the program has grown more than 800 per cent since 2003, from the equivalent of 150 full-time students to 1,154 during the 2007/08 school year. (Because many take only one or two courses through Surrey Connect, the actual head-count of students was about 4,790 during the last school year. It takes eight pupils taking one course each online to equate to one full-time student.)
