Students warp to class in Web’s ‘Second Life’ - Nathan Crabbe, Gainsville Sun
Students will be able to teleport to Paul Fishwick’s lecture on Friday. The University of Florida computer science professor will be in the simulated world Second Life for a lecture on the role of libraries in virtual environments. Second Life is a 3-D online world full of users from around the globe. Second Life users create stylized versions of themselves called avatars that can fly and teleport. “It’s certainly not as immersive as ‘The Matrix,’ but it’s going in that general direction,” Fishwick said.
