More students get with the program: Online Learning - Jennifer Bradshaw, Asbury Park Press
Distance learning — classes offered via the Internet rather than in a classroom — has experienced a "phenomenal" growth in popularity, said the director of the Teaching and Learning Center at Brookdale Community College, Norah Kerr-McCurry. "We're up 30 percent from last term," she said. "Our population is (mostly) working people, and a lot of them will wait to sign up for courses because of scheduling issues. We're finding now that sections are filling up more quickly than face to face, and we've never seen that before." Kerr-McCurry said enrollment is increasing because the courses so easily complement the busy schedules of students with many classes, busy work schedules, or busy family and personal lives.
