Remember carrying big, heavy books and using typewriters at school? Well, those days are long gone. Today, technology, such as the online textbooks used in Avon and “virtual computers” being tried in Avon Lake, are changing the way students learn. Both high-tech tools are being rolled out this school year. “Our children today are very technologically savvy, and here we were lugging textbooks around,” said Avon Schools Superintendent Jim Reitenbach. “We figured it was time to change that.” Avon teens are ditching old-fashioned paper books in favor of electronic ones, which can be accessed via CDs or the Internet.
