Higher Education Goes The Distance for N.M.- Red Orbit
In a rural state like New Mexico, where hundreds of miles can separate wanna-be students and wouldbe alma maters, distance learning has always made sense. In a poor state like New Mexico, with gasoline around $4 a gallon, it's also starting to make a whole lot of cents. Schools from Central New Mexico Community College to Western New Mexico University are offering online learning courses. This fall CNM will offer about 210 courses and is expecting 4,000 online students. Western just graduated its first two all-online students with degrees in criminal justice, and also offers a bachelor's in rehabilitation services and a master's in interdisciplinary studies.
