Wikis: The Crown Jewels of Online Learning Collaboration - David Weekly, LinuxInsider
A wiki can allow people on different continents to work together, or it can improve the efficiency of a six-person office. It's all because wikis encourage collaboration, writes David Weekly, CEO of PBwiki. Increasingly, managers find themselves leading teams that are scattered in different cities or even continents, working on projects which have to be flexible enough to rapidly evolve to meet changing business needs. In this environment, business managers are starting to learn what software developers have known for years: Wikis provide a simple but powerful boost to collaboration and can quickly improve business productivity . Wikis, first popularized by Wikipedia, are interactive Web sites that allow multiple writers and editors to produce and distribute content collaboratively. Wiki software automatically tracks revisions and changes, providing a convenient audit trail, and (if necessary) the ability to revert back to previous versions.

Comments:
I am a recent wiki user and have found it to be a great time saver! I now have the ability to work collaboratively with my fellow researchers without having to juggle all of our schedules to work on projects. I have found myself using the wiki for a variety of projects. I hope that others read your blog and can realize the potential of wikis.

Wikis are a wonderful collaborative learning tool. Its also good for knowledge management in the workplace.

Well, we do use Wiki's here internally. We got one corporate wiki with projects as categories, pages as specific detail locations.

Works great and easy managable! We didn't used the intranet so I can access and work RIGHT now. Great stuff!

Wikis are very helpful for sharing knowledge in a company or on the web.

A Wiki is an excellent knowledge management tool. It works for both small and large organizations for sharing ideas and knowledge. The tough part is getting people to actually do the work of sharing what they know by taking the time to write it to the wiki.
