Cyber school undergoes metamorphosis - Terry Dillman, the News-Times
School officials say it's a change in status, not a change in service. Insight School of Oregon (ISO), Lincoln County School District's (LCSD) public online charter high school, has morphed into what's known as a private alternative school. Oregon statutes require at least half of the students who attend any public charter school that offers online courses as part of its curriculum to reside within the sponsoring district. Insight opened its virtual doors in January, with the school's officials pinning their on-going charter hopes on receiving a waiver of enrollment limits. In March, the Oregon State Board of Education denied the waiver request from the local Oregon Council for Online Learning (OCOL), which served as the policymaking board for Insight. Tom Zandoli, who serves as LCSD's charter school liaison, briefly described the change to school board members during their regular session held Tuesday night in the former Arcadia Elementary building, which - among other things - provides rooms for ISO's comparatively miniscule brick-and-mortar presence.
