Terrorism course via online learning has rigors of its own - Tim Johnson, Burlington Free Press
The instructor who teaches Political Science 2070 has never met any of her 14 students in person, but she's quite clear about where they all sit. "They're all in the front row -- this is no back-of-the-class course," said Anne Cucinelli, who then added: "I don't know what they look like." She's not blind. The seating arrangement she refers to is figurative, because for this course -- and for many others offered by the Community College of Vermont, from world literature to astronomy -- there is no classroom. The course, "National Security & Terrorism," is conducted entirely online. Anyone who imagines an online course to be a lightweight, easy-credit exercise is in for a surprise. When Cucinelli pictures her students sitting in the front row of her virtual classroom, she's not kidding. There's no hiding in an online course.
