Adult learners break 'tunnel vision' of traditional Wilkes student definition - Christa Sgobba, Wilkes Beacon
Like many students, John Mazur is looking excitedly to his graduation in May of 2009. But unlike the majority of his fellow graduates, he doesn't have to stress over the subsequent job search. After he receives his degree, he'll still be retired. Mazur, 53, is one of the growing number of adults throughout the United States who have opted to go back to school to earn a degree. According to an article published in the Online Journal of Distance Learning Administration in 2003, adult students have increased 170% from 1970 to 2000, compared to a rise of only 41% for students aged 18 to 24.
