What exactly is online learning? - Kayla Westra, Minnesota West Worthington Daily Globe
This question might seem simple at first glance, but students and faculty alike will tell you this is a difficult question to answer. Online learning is a component of distance learning, where students and faculty may be at different locations, and maybe even at different times. For those who are over age fifty, distance learning meant taking a correspondence course. The student received materials in the mail, completed assignments, and mailed things back to the instructor. Distance learning today generally utilizes interactive television (ITV), with an instructor at one location, and students at multiple locations, interacting in real time, and online learning, via the Internet. With the capabilities of the Internet and technological advances, today’s online learning is an interactive learning experience where students and faculty inhabit a virtual classroom.
