Troy University beefs up cooperative programs with China - Dothan Eagle
Troy University plans to strengthen ties with sister universities in China by allowing more students to participate in a dual degree program and opening a trade office in the People’s Republic. “The best is yet to come for China so it’s very important for our students to understand China and it’s important for people in China to have the American experience,” Troy University Chancellor Jack Hawkins said. Hawkins spoke briefly about the plans Wednesday during a ceremony recognizing students participating in Troy’s 1-2-1 program, a dual degree program that allows Chinese students to spend their first year of school at their home university, then transfer to Troy for two years, then return to China for their senior year of college, after which they’ll receive degrees from both universities.... Troy recently announced the creation of the Confucius Institute, a non-profit center at the university that will expand Chinese language and cultural education and foster business and industry ties to China. The institute will also use distance-learning programs to offer Chinese language courses to Alabama high school students.
