Schools get aid to translate via Web - CAROLYNE PARK, Northwest Arkansas News
A grant to the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville valued at $ 1. 4 million is expected to help eliminate language barriers between parents and teachers at more than 72 public schools statewide. The grant from IBM gives UA’s Arkansas Charter School Resource Center access to the company’s TraduceloAhora translation program. TraduceloAhora means “Translate Now !” in Spanish. The center is sharing the technology with 24 charter schools, up to 12 future charter schools, three residential schools and 33 traditional public schools statewide. The program instantly translates e-mails and Web pages from English to Spanish and from Spanish to English. It will provide a conduit for teachers to communicate with family members of Hispanic students who aren’t fluent in English.
