Technology and the Internet extend reach of classrooms at USI - Ryan Reynolds, Evansville Courier Press
Like a lot of other schools, USI is embracing technology to make a college education more convenient and more attainable. The videotapes are almost extinct, replaced by shiny DVDs. But even those are teetering on the edge of the abyss of obsolescence in the school's distance education department. These days, the emphasis is on the Internet. "We've kept up with the technology," said Dana Willett, USI's director of instructor technology. "We still have a few courses offered (by DVD), but the emphasis now is on streaming video and audio." USI uses both the synchronous and asynchronous models of webcasting classes, Willett said.
