Comprehensive Plan to Relieve Nursing Shortage Unveiled - University of Maryland
The University of Maryland School of Nursing is playing a critical role in a comprehensive plan designed to end the state's nursing crisis by doubling the number of qualified students in nursing education programs. Janet D. Allan, PhD, RN, CS, FAAN, dean of the School of Nursing, helped lead the work group that developed the plan and spoke at a Nov. 5 news conference to unveil it. Since the University of Maryland School of Nursing is the largest in the state and one of the top-ranked in the nation, it will play a key role in implementing the plan. This fall the School added 152 additional students for a total of 1,614, its most ever, said Allan.... Already, Allan continued, nursing schools are able to partner with health care institutions to offer clinical training experience. Schools can expand their reach by offering online learning Web-based and distance-learning classroom options.
