Always learning on the road through life - LEWIS DIUGUID, Kansas City Star
I love staying in touch with the students in the school’s Class of 1999. I studied with them from their freshman year until they graduated. I wrote more than 100 columns for The Kansas City Star, telling what it’s like to be a teacher and teenager. These “kids” now help me see the challenges, frustrations, triumphs, dreams, hopes and joys they have as adults. Courtney Franklin’s e-mail let me know that she and her husband, Darwin, and two children have settled in to a good life in Dallas.... Franklin also told me that she was pursuing an online degree at the University of Phoenix. “I know it is a bit unconventional, and until I actually started, I even snubbed my nose at online learning,” she said. “I figured it was a lazy, easy way to earn a degree. (I was wrong.)” Franklin is going after a two-year degree in business. Then she will pursue a bachelor’s degree in history. Online learning, which wasn’t an option when I was her age, has been a boon.
