Renew investment in WCCCD success - Detroit Free Press
Wayne County Community College District has created an eye-catching TV ad detailing just a sliver of the school's recent successes and the perils WCCCD will face if its millage is not renewed next month…. Enrollment has skyrocketed to 65,435 students in fall 2006, marking 48,000 new credit and noncredit students since 2001. Michigan's sour economy has made some of the growth logical -- in hard times, smart people improve their skills. In one survey, 8,000 WCCCD students cited unemployment as the reason they enrolled. WCCCD also has targeted online learning as a key growth area. The payoff there has come in a 300% increase in distance enrollment. Over the next 10 years, 50% of the college's students are expected to attend via computer.
