Finding spirituality in a virtual classroom - Lila Hanft, Cleveland Jewish News
Rabbi Yakov Travis can teach classes in Jewish spirituality from almost anywhere. Every Monday evening, Rabbi Yakov Travis, Ph.D. goes online to the Tiferet Institute’s virtual classroom, adjusts his webcam, and watches as the faces of the students in his Kabbalistic Spirituality class appear on his screen from homes and offices around the country. When they’re all present, Travis’s computer desktop looks like the opening of “The Brady Bunch”: a grid of nine or so self-contained talking heads, all looking at, smiling at, and greeting one another. “People come (to class) from all over: east coast, west coast, Vancouver, Brazil, the Bronx,” he explains.
