IT in higher education - Varun Aggarwal, Express Computer Online
Some of the major breakthroughs in the history of computers have taken place in one university research laboratory or the other. Educational institutions play an important role in the growth of IT. They are also used as testing grounds by various software vendors who provide the technology for free thereby letting students scrutinise the technology, find faults and loopholes in it and help build better and more robust software and hardware platforms. Ironically most educational institutes in India have restricted the use of IT to computer labs or for accounting applications. However, a lot of institutions are realising the need for bringing IT from the research labs into the infrastructure and the classroom. You can now find Indian educational institutes equipped with some of the world’s best technologies, bringing them at par with their European or American counterparts.
