UNC online is big time - Karin Dryhurst, Greensboro News-Record
The 16 UNC campuses will use the system's brand-name recognition to compete with the University of Phoenix, a for-profit online university that enrolls about 300,000 students. UNC has launched a site that houses more than 130 online programs under one address: http://online.northcarolina.edu. Prospective students, from high school students to working adults, can browse programs by subject or by university. Michelle Soler, the marketing director of the Division of Continual Learning at UNCG, said the university and its sister schools now have a chance in the online education market. "Before, we could never compete with the University of Phoenix," Soler said. "We could compete with degrees and quality of instruction, but not in terms of mass media."
