`Equity in education can be obtained by distance learning' - New Delhi News
....Expressing his gratitude to the University, Prof. Swaminathan remembered the late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi who "understood the intimate relationship between food security and national sovereignty of a country". Quoting from former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's speech at the midnight of India's freedom, he said: "He spoke about the abolition of illiteracy, hunger and poverty in the country. But we are still a long way to go. Open and Distance Learning will be a very important partner for achieving the goal of education for all."
