Students Need Accreditation Info to Avoid Distance Learning Scams
With a record number of students turning to distance learning programs, resources like Online-Education.net can help them weed out scams and diploma mills. Nearly 3.2 million students were enrolled in at least one online course during the fall of 2005, a 39 percent increase from a year earlier, according to the Sloan Consortium. "Students need to protect themselves from potential fraud by enrolling in an accredited distance learning program," said Christyn Randolph, a spokesperson for Online-Education.net. .... The number of students enrolled in distance learning online has outpaced the growth rate of the overall post-secondary student population, according to the Sloan Consortium. Likewise, the number of diploma mills continues to grow. Diploma mills and accreditation mills can create problems for their graduates, who may find that employers and other institutions may not acknowledge their certificates and degrees.
