High-speed Internet signals travel over telephone lines or fiber-optic cable every day, linking Fort Wayne to the world. City residents can choose from among a range of broadband Internet services to keep them connected. But rural residents of northeast Indiana may have a single provider of high-speed service, or none at all.... Without broadband service, rural residents may miss out on opportunities to work from home or take distance learning courses from universities, said Steve Jones, a professor at the Center for Information and Communication Sciences at Ball State University.
