Bullpen catcher is on the road to his degree - Michelle Maitre, Oakland Tribune
Oakland A's bullpen catcher Brandon Buckley hasn't been just playing around these past couple of seasons while the team was on the road. Buckley, 29, completed his bachelor's degree in sports coaching last month after studying for two years through an online program, even as he logged some 100,000 travel miles with the team. He did the bulk of his studying in hotel rooms between midnight and 3 a.m. after lugging textbooks, computer and printer on road trips to cities from Los Angeles to Boston. "I didn't get much sleep the last two years," said Buckley, who has worked for the A's for five years. As bullpen catcher, Buckley travels with the teamand works with pitchers, but isn't on the team roster and doesn't play in games.
