There was a bit of a fuss last week when South Kent College in Dover announced that it was to hand out MP3 players to its students in a pioneering podcasting experiment. The idea was that it would allow them to download lectures and listen to them in their own time. The Campaign for Real Education was horrified, claiming that it devalued the business of learning. But does it? I'm sure there were people who threw up their hands in despair the first time a computer was brought into the classroom, yet nowadays education could not do without them. The same goes for the electronic whiteboard that replaced the blackboard.
