Distance learning clicks, expands - Mark Fisher, Dayton Daily News
Even though she lives close enough to campus to make the drive comfortably, 33-year-old Nicole Combs has two good reasons for taking distance-learning classes from Sinclair Community College — and their names are Mikala and Logan. "We have softball, we have cheerleading, we have many other places we have to be," Combs said of her 11-year-old and 9-year-old daughters. "So taking a class through distance learning allows me to work it into my schedule." Combs, who also takes some face-to-face courses and online classes, is not the type of student distance-learning officials thought they'd attract when they began setting up their computer networks and video feeds. But the Miami County resident and thousands of students like her are defying the conventional wisdom, embracing technology and changing the face of online learning.
