Most primary teachers now trained online - Siobhan Maguire, the Sunday Times (Ireland)
A controversial, three- year-old internet-based “college” is training more graduates to be teachers than the state’s five traditional training institutes combined. New figures from the Department of Education show that more primary school teachers qualified with H Dips last year from Hibernia College, the online postgraduate course, than came through conventional further education courses. The success of the online course has upset the five colleges of education, who were forced by the government to cap graduate places three years ago.
