Students see world from their classroom: Schools trade pricey travel for virtual trips - VENESSA SANTOS-GARZA, Corpus Christi Caller-times
Eleven hours from the South Texas coastline, far from the flocks of gulls or smell of saltwater, Trenton Tucker looked up and saw the Corpus Christi Bay. The 11-year-old student from Matador never has felt sand beneath his toes or seen the sea, but he got a little closer recently with the help of the Texas State Aquarium's Aquavision program that takes advantage of video conferencing. "Here, we take them on a virtual field trip and have them back in time for lunch," said Auburn Carpenter, the program's creator and virtual instructor who is based out of the aquarium in Corpus Christi.
