Big Podcasts on Campus - Julio Ojeda-Zapata, Pioneer Press
Big-name guest speakers such as Gov. Tim Pawlenty regularly appear at Hamline University's School of Law in St. Paul. But, until recently, relatively few people heard the speeches. Geoffrey Hankerson changed this by "podcasting" the speeches to the planet. The school tech worker distributes the talks as sound files that can be easily downloaded to iPod-like music players — anywhere and anytime — over the Internet. Hamline's "Conversations in Law" series is part of a new, campus-centric trend in podcasting, which has been a popular means for sharing audio and video content online since late 2004. Colleges and universities are exploiting the technology to make everything from classroom lectures and course materials to chapel services and radio programs available as iPod-friendly media files.
