In three of the very few articles to focus on the assessment of writing in new media, theauthors—Pamela Takayoshi, Meredith Zoetewey and Julie Staggers, and Kathleen Yancey—askhow the strategies and criteria that we use to assess students’ print writing apply to ourassessment of their digital writing. How do we evaluate the coherence of a hypertextual essay,for example, or the clarity of a visual argument? Or do familiar assessment criteria such ascoherence and clarity need to be substantially revised or even rejected when we are evaluatingwork in new media?
