State wants regulation of electronic courses - JOE KAFKA, Associated Press
The increasing number of electronic courses offered to South Dakota students by various schools and other sources should be regulated and coordinated, legislators said Thursday. Deciding that there should be consistency and quality in those offerings, the state Senate Education Committee approved a bill that would create a state framework for both Internet and televised courses provided to high school students. HB1236, sent unanimously to the Senate floor, would let the state Education Department establish rules for coordinated course offerings, credits earned by students who take the classes and the criteria for school districts participating in the virtual high school.
