Distance learning good for some - LAURA HUNT, Alamogordon News
When Velmo Holm, a civilian working at Holloman Air Force Base, deployed with the Air Force overseas in 2000, the University of Maryland deployed with him. Distance education -- courses or degrees that are offered over the Internet -- allowed him to stay on top of his school work and maintain his commitment to the military. While many students prefer a real classroom environment, experts say online learning can improve educational opportunities for people who don't have the option -- or don't want the option -- of classroom learning.
